Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World

Invitation to Become JIAAW Affiliated Faculty or Graduate Student

At the start of each academic year, the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World (JIAAW) invites faculty to become affiliates of the Institute and accepts applications for faculty and graduate students from allied programs at Brown University to join the community as Faculty Fellows and Graduate Student Fellows. Applications should be received by Friday, September 19 and details on how to apply are given below.

Fellows of the JIAAW are scholars and students whose interests align with the mission of the JIAAW, which is to advance the academic study and public promotion of archaeology and the ancient world. At the JIAAW, archaeology pertains to the material study of the human past. Likewise, the JIAAW treats the ancient as a wide temporal expanse of human history that encompasses the globe prior to the intensification of European colonialism in the sixteenth century.

JIAAW Faculty Affiliates
Faculty Affiliates are members of a wider community of archaeology and the ancient world scholars at Brown University and are invited to attend all public events at the JIAAW. Faculty interested in becoming a JIAAW Faculty Affiliate should complete the following online form: https://forms.gle/GDMGMpoUw2N3yGJK7.

JIAAW Faculty Fellows

Faculty Fellows are supported annually with a modest research stipend ($750 in the current academic year).

The form also asks you to list any classes you have taught (or are planning to teach) that have previously carried an ARCH cross-listing. There is also a place to submit your Curriculum Vitae.

JIAAW Graduate Fellows
Graduate Fellows are Ph.D. students in allied programs that are pursuing academic studies and research connected to archaeology and the ancient world. Students continue as Graduate Fellows as long as they are in Good Standing in their Ph.D. programs.
