New JIAAW Faculty Fellows

The Joukowsky Institute welcomes our newest Faculty Fellows, Michael Satlow (Professor of Judaic and Religious Studies) and Catherine Nuckols (International Humanities Postdoctoral Fellow in the History of Art and Architecture and the Cogut Institute for Humanities).

Catherine Nuckols is International Humanities Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of History of Art and Architecture and at the Cogut Institute for the Humanities. Her research examines the visual nature of ancient Maya hieroglyphic writing and how the study of its non-linguistic features can lead to new insights on visual forms of communication. Her book project is entitled “Full-Figure Glyphs: Iconicity, Figuration, and Tz’ihb in Ancient Maya Inscriptions.”
 
Michael Satlow is Professor of Judaic and Religious Studies. He specializes in Early Judaism, with a particular interest in social history. He has written extensively on issues of gender, sexuality, and marriage among Jews in antiquity. He also has broader research interests in Jewish history, methodology and theory in religious studies, and Late Antiquity generally. His latest book is entitled How the Bible Became Holy
