Joukowsky Award for Student Research

The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World offers three prizes to honor undergraduate students who have shown great accomplishment in the study of archaeology through their writing and research in the current academic year.

All current undergraduate students at Brown University are eligible, regardless of concentration or expected date of graduation.

The work submitted must have been written for a Brown University class this Fall or Spring semester. Students may submit no more than one paper or written project for each of the two categories (ARCH 0001-ARCH 0999 Courses and ARCH 1000-ARCH 2999 Courses). Judges will select an single overall winner, for the most outstanding piece of writing dealing with any aspect of archaeology, from among the submissions for the ARCH 0001-ARCH 0999 Courses and ARCH 1000-ARCH 2999 Courses categories. Note that honors theses are not eligible for these awards.

Submission deadline for all entries: Monday, May 11th, 2026 at Noon.

Winning submissions will receive cash awards and will be published on the Joukowsky Institute’s website. Winners will be contacted via email.

  • All undergraduate students at Brown University are eligible to apply
  • Students may submit no more than one paper or project for each of the two categories
  • Honors theses are not eligible for consideration
  • All entries should be written documents saved as Microsoft Word or Adobe pdf files
  • Documents may include images, tables, and figures, as appropriate
  • Please save your submission as YourLastName2026 (e.g. Smith2026.docx)
  • Prizes are processed through Workday, so students will be required to complete an online registration process in order to receive the award.
  • Enter by completing the online submission form, including uploading your document(s).
