Winners of the 2025-2026 Joukowsky Award for Student Research

The Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World congratulates the three winners of this year's Joukowsky Award for Student Research:Names of the Joukowsky Award for Student Research winners
 
  • Alexandra Coia, for her paper, “Passed Down from the ‘Mother of the World’: The Precarious Role of DNA in Reframing the Racialization of Ancient Egyptian Identity," written for the Spring 2026 course, ARCH 0730: The Secrets of Ancient Bones: Discovering Ancient DNA (taught by Dr. Victoria Moses)
     
  • Kerem Koyluoglu, for his project: "Recreation of the Oseberg Skeleton (c. 815 AD)," written for the Spring 2026 course, HIST 1210: The Viking Age (taught by Dr. Jonathan Conant)
     
  • Sophia Woo, for her paper: “A Narrative of Kingship: Royal Legitimization through Chapel Building in the Reign of Nebhepetre Mentuhotep II," written for the Spring 2026 course, EGYT 1430 Pyramids, Power, Propaganda: Ancient Egyptian History to 1300 BCE (taught by Dr. Laurel Bestock)

The Joukowsky Award for Student Research is an annual competition to recognize undergraduate students who have shown great accomplishment in the study of archaeology through their writing and research in the current academic year.
